This Is Why Slimmer Of The Month Is Rubbish!

The truth about Slimmer of the month...

Let's be honest, who always wins Slimmer of the month? That's right the person who is extremely overweight.

"You're fat shaming".

No, I am stating a fact. There's a very high chance the most overweight person in the room will win the award. It's true, isn't it?

Well, I'm here to tell you that the whole thing is a farce.

Β

But why Richie? Explain yourself...

Well... 20 stone Susan can safely be in a calorie deficit of anywhere up to 7/10,000+ calories a week ensuring a 3-5lb fat loss.

She can do this relatively easily with no cravings, no fatigue, etc.

Why?

Because she has a ton of body fat available, when in such a deficit, her body isn't concerned at the rate of weight loss as it knows it has such an abundance of fat available.

Sally also burns a crazy amount of calories compared to someone who only has a small amount of weight to lose. For every pound of fat on your body, you burn extra calories. Then, consider all your daily activities with that amount of weight on you. To put into perspective, you know when you do the shopping, and you try to be a hero and carry too many bags into the kitchen from the car? Well imagine every activity x5 of that weight throughout the day.

Very overweight people are a calorie furnace, I promise.

Β

Richie get to the point...

Well if you compare 10 Stone Betty who can only be realistically in a 3/5,000 calorie deficit a week aiming for 1-2lb fat loss, her body fat is quite low, so her cravings are a lot more intense. There isn't as much fat available, so her body is conscious of dropping weight with very little reserves left. She also weighs 100lbs less, so her calorie burn is wayyyy smaller than Sally's.

Now, if she tried to eat less or exercise loads to have the same deficit as Sally, she would almost surely be in a nutrient deficiency, hair would drop out, periods would stop, and she would most certainly become ill.

πŸ€·πŸ»β™‚οΈ Now, can someone tell me why these two people are in direct competition with each other trying to achieve the biggest weight loss.

It’s completely unfair, the larger person has a huge advantage, it’s dangerous, and it can create unhealthy eating habits.

Actually, whilst I'm ranting I'll say now it's probably more impressive for the person with less weight to lose fat than the larger person, as you have to be more committed.

How can Slimming World create unhealthy eating habits?

Well, what happens when Betty is so determined to beat Sally? She is going to reduce her calories further, and up her exercise. It's literally a competition, remember, with a reward for the winner.

Unfortunately for Betty, she won't be able to sustain that and will end up binging out of control as she has pushed herself too far.

The following day she will self restrict, and then BOOM, you have the start of an easting disorder.

Remember, I'm not having a go at the plan itself, just the ridiculous competition it runs.

Never compare yourself to others

So now I hope you understand why it's 1. stupid and unfair, 2. very dangerous, and 3. potentially the start of an eating disorder.

AtΒ Team RHΒ we never ever run weight loss competitions.

We know fine well it could be very motivational for "SOME PEOPLE" but completely unfair and dangerous for other people.

The only person you should be competing against is that person staring back at you in the mirror.

UKΒ β€œSuch a great app! The support has really helped me see the benefit of protein and fibre. I’m now at goal weight, I highly recommend Team RH, life changing.”

After losing more than 6 stone on a GLP-1 medication I was nervous about getting my appetite back and struggling to maintain my weight. Team RH is a great tool to help you achieve this, it is not just for achieving weight loss. I am learning so much about what I should be doing and eating to remain at my weight and have a much healthier outlook in the process. I definitely recommend.

The best thing I ever did was to sign up to Team RH! Having been a member of slimming clubs on and off for years and putting back on what I'd lost I realised I had to do something. I've realised that I've had such a bad relationship with food but not any more :) You have to put the work in and commit to it but I just know this is going to change my life.

I’ve never been on a diet where I eat loads, feel full all day, have so much energy, help and support and have lost over half a stone in 3 weeks! I have a different mindset with scales and food and enjoying it. Thank you Team RH

I’ve been with Team RH for a few years now and it’s great. In total I have lost around 8st. The app is great and easy to use, the team are always happy, friendly and waiting to help! I’d 100% recommend. My husband has been on plan for around 3 months now and he’s lost 28lb!

I have done all the diets under the sun and I can honestly say this program is the best I have ever followed. They provide more positive support than I have ever received. The app is fantastic and super easy to use.

Read the small print, know you commit yourself to a year and then seriously nothing to complain about. The app is brilliant and motivating β€” not found one food yet that hasn’t been found by the barcode scanner. Came to lose a stone and lost just over that in 12 weeks and even better managed to maintain for last 3 months eating a high amount of calories and averaging 11,000 steps a day. This works if you commit!!

I started Mounjaro Feb ’25 and following TEAM RH GLP-1 plan. Lost 5 stone and counting. The app has everything you need. Much better than other apps out there. What is Β£7.99 a month?!

The app is great. Lots of information about nutrition and reaching your daily goals. Still can’t believe the amount of calories I have and still lose weight. The team are very helpful β€” chatted to Andrea, Ashley, Chiko, and Emma on WhatsApp and they couldn't have been more helpful.

It was extremely interesting reading through some of the reviews on here. I’ve had the app now for one month and considered it best on the market; it holds the user accountable if used correctly and if the advice is followed. It’s not just about the app, the app is just a tool to enable the user to follow the advice. For the price you pay you cannot go wrong.
